Come & Try (own horse)

< Back

Do you have your own horse/pony and think Pony Club might be fun and something you’d like to do. Why not come along to our next Rally and try it out?

We offer a "Come & Try" day to help you decide whether Pony Club is something that you think you'll like and enjoy; or whether it's something that doesn't suit your needs at the current time. A "Come & Try" day is a Rally Attendance without taking out full membership - basically it's a "try before you buy"  :)

Our Rallies are held on the FOURTH Sunday of each month (except January)

The cost for each rider to try out for the day is $40.
$20 paid directly to Pony Club Victoria online for the riders Public Liability insurance for the day and $20 paid directly to us on rally day to help pay for our wonderful instructors.

(we cater for riders from 3 to 25 years of age)

YOUR COME & TRY JOURNEY

Come and Try membership provides an opportunity for people new to pony club to experience a rally and find out which club is the best fit for them. A maximum of three come and try experiences is permitted. This may be at one club or multiple clubs. Each time you attend, a new Come and Try membership must be purchased through the members JustGo profile.

Below are the steps to begin your journey within pony club.

1

CONTACT CLUB

Contact Us (if you haven’t already) to enquire about availability and a date to attend a rally.

2

CREATE A PONY CLUB AUSTRALIA MEMBERSHIP PROFILE

Create a profile in the pony club membership database - JustGo www.pca.justgo.com

Pony Club Australia is the national body for pony club. Pony Club Victoria is a member state and uses the national database to process memberships. All people attending pony club require a profile in the national database called JustGo. Parents of riders aged under 18 years, will require a profile but for now just set one up for the rider.

JOIN VICTORIA DIRECT

Come and try membership is purchased from the JustGo club called Victoria Direct. Use the search function in JustGo to find Victoria Direct and join.

A fee of $20 (plus small surcharge fee) will be paid at checkout. This will give the rider membership for one rally which includes public & liability insurance when in attendance at the club rally.

If the rider proceeds to join within a month of rally, the fee paid is deducted from the full membership offering when upgrading to a full membership.

The club will require evidence that you have purchased come and try membership. You can show your confirmation email or a screenshot of your Victoria Direct membership status found within your profile. See below.

ATTEND RALLY

You are now set and ready to ride at our rally!

On the day, park, secure your pony and make your way to the clubrooms.

There you will meet the Club District Commissioner and/or membership volunteer and can settle any outstanding fees and confirm the plans for the day and where all the facilities are located.

SOME NOTES FOR YOUR UPCOMING RALLY ATTENDANCE...

The rider will be required to wear a riding helmet which meets the Australian Standard and also flat, smooth soled boots (nothing with a chunky sole that can get caught in the stirrups). Please note that riders are not permitted to ride in singlets - tops must be sleeved.  Additionally the horse's saddle and tack must also be in a good, safe condition.

All riders under the age of 18yo must have a parent/guardian attend rallies with them and must remain throughout the duration of the rally. Please keep in mind that parents are not to interfere with the lessons and must refrain from coaching their rider from the side lines. The instructor is in charge of the lesson and must have the respect of both rider and parents at all times.

Gates open to the grounds at 8.30am, with lessons commencing at 10.00am - please have your horse tacked up and ready for gear check by 9.30am.

We run a full canteen at our Rallies - online lunch pre-ordering is required for canteen lunches or you can bring your own lunch on the day. The canteen is open all day for hot and cold drinks and lollies etc. if you wish to purchase any.

Everyone gets together at lunch time to socialise whilst having their lunch and we also have a short informal meeting to fill members in on what has been happening in and around the club of late.

If you haven't already done so, please check out the "Rallies" and "Membership" tabs on our  website  for all up-to-date information.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to give us a call or email us at meltondistrictponyclub@gmail.com

We aim to make our rallies fun for all, so why not come along and make it a family day out, make some new friends and have a lot of fun.
